During the pandemic, I gave myself three goals. The first was to switch careers, trade in my longtime stint as a freelance art director and become a professional concept artist. My second goal was to write a novel. And the third was to grow a full head of hair.
Two out of three ain’t bad.
The novel is titled The Pacific Arcanum. “It is an adult contemporary fantasy that reinterprets forgotten mythologies of the Pacific Northwest, merging ancient lore with a tense modern mystery.” That’s a line from my query letter. Don’t get me started on querying. Writing a novel is hard. Finding an agent, it turns out, is harder. Imagine showing up at the Bell center carrying a pair of skates and an old hockey stick and announcing you are ready to play for the Habs. Oh. And you’re pushing 60.
The reward for chasing agents is I having to engage with social media. Fortunately, my first goal helps a bit with that aspect of the second. Here are a few of the paintings I’ve created to hook an agent. If you are an agent and have reached this page, please reach out immediately. I have an envelope with your name on it. Wink, wink.

Here are a series of Instagram and X posts that I created to help promote the book. There are a dozen or so. Please watch them to your hearts content.
The links to both of my social media accounts are below. I invite you to follow me on either or both.
